PriFest reveals the main competition category

PriFest, the most important film festival in Kosovo, has presented this year’s main competition category – feature films from the Balkans. This selection includes six new productions that bring powerful and emotional stories from the region. Of these films, one is a world premiere, one is an international premiere, while all the films are local premieres for Kosovo.

Another interesting feature of this category is the fact that four of the six films are productions or co-productions with Kosovo, proving the influence and commitment of the country in the Balkan cinematographic industry.

OCARINA by Jeton ZOGJANI (Kosovo) – Kosovar premiere (92 min).
A story that deals with the challenges of a family after moving to a new country for a better life. As they try to fit in, they become involved in an unexpected journey that tests their morals and their goals for the future.

EXCURSION by Una GUNJAK (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, France, Norway, Qatar) – Kosovar premiere (93 min).
A teenage girl from Sarajevo invents a lie to gain attention, claiming to be pregnant. This act sparks a scandal that quickly spirals out of control and exposes the social pressures young people face.

STORK by Isa QOSJA (Montenegro, Kosovo) – World premiere (97 min).
A remote village in Montenegro where the inhabitants face their own personal dilemmas as they try to live independently. The film tells stories of three women who fight for their freedom and identity in a patriarchal community.

  1. M by Vardan TOZIJA (Macedonia, Croatia, Kosovo, France, Luxembourg) – Kosovar premiere (96 min).
  2. This film tells the story of an isolated boy who lives with his father and faces discovering the world outside his closed home. A dark and tense journey that unfolds the complexities of life at the limits of knowledge and mystery.
  3. THIS IS NOT A LOVE SONG by Nevio MARASOVIC (Croatia) – International premiere (72 min).
  4. A famous director, in a personal crisis, invites his ex-girlfriend to recreate their relationship for a film, engaging in an introspective journey of love and art.
  5. SILENCE OF SIRENS by Gazmend NELA (Kosovo, Switzerland, North Macedonia, Albania) – Kosovar premiere (90 min).
  6. An ordinary traffic cop from Kosovo is suddenly embroiled in a high-level corruption scheme as he and his partner try to do the right thing, but end up in a moral and legal battle that exceeds their means.

The showtimes of these movies will be released soon. PriFest, its 16th edition, will take place from September 10 to 15, 2024, at Kino Armata, Pristina.

This festival continues to be an important platform for the promotion of Balkan cinema and offers a unique opportunity for the public to enjoy the latest films from the region.
